A place to be

A seaside trip to Margate filled my Bank Holiday Monday. It was beautifully sunny and quite warm for the English seaside. I was very happy to show the town to a friend and to be able to 'discover' more about it myself.

From the station we headed to the sea front, past an abandoned hotel to find the bomb shelter from bygone days.

 There T.S. Elliot wrote some of his famous poem "The Waste Land", considered one of the most important poems of the 20th century. However, we needed to ask a couple on their Sunday walk in order to find the place. Later on, at the museum, we learnt that the plaque had been removed by vandals...

Going along the seafront we talked to an artist who sells his works either by the beach or in the high street:




Around six we had traditional English tea with a symbolic scone, alfresco, at a lovely seafront cafe run by three generations of women. The place was really nice and friendly and the young daughter serving us made us feel really welcome.
