Learning English

Do you remember how you learnt or tried to learn a foreign language?
Was it in your own country, in the country where this language is spoken or both?
Teaching English here, in the UK I meet all kinds of students and it is very interesting to see how they acquire the contemporary lingua franca.

    1. You are who you think you are, Dear Anonymous, or:

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can't--you're right.”
      ― Henry Ford

Please see the poem I found online:

      ....
      IF...

If you think you are beaten, you are.
If you think you dare not, you don't.
If you'd like to win, but think you can't,
      It's almost certain you won't.
If you think you'll lose, you've lost.
For out of the world we find
Success begins with a fellows will.
It's all in the state of mind.
If you think you're outclassed, you are.
You've got to think high to rise.
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.
      Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster person.
But sooner or later the person who wins
Is the one who thinks they can.

Well, no doubt that learning a language is easier for some people than for others. There are many factors to consider; motivation and finding the way to learn that suits you best being crucial ones. What do you think?
